I need some MAJOR advice. I have no clue where to begin in buying stuff for this little bun in my oven. Here is a very short list of things I know I need (I'm sure some of you are laughing)... and I would love to know what your favorites are as well as other "must-have" items you recommend I look into. Thank you in advance!
Car Seat
Stroller
Diaper Bag
Carrier/Wraps, etc.
Crib
Bouncer
Ok, for carseats/strollers, babies r us has the biggest in-store selection. You can research safety of specific carseats online and then go in store to look at them, see if they fit in your car, push the stroller around, etc. Then, you can go back to the internet to find the lowest price! I had all this stuff on my registry and pretty much all was purchased for me. You've also probably seen me with my many wraps/slings over the past year. As baby gets closer you should come over and I'll give you the rundown on all the different kinds (costs/benefits) so you can decide what you think would be best for you.
ReplyDeleteHey we were just talking about this last night:)
ReplyDeleteSo you know for a stroller I have two words for you BOB REVOLUTION. It's light, it's supper easy to push, its compacts easily and you can use it as a jogger/reg stroller. By far the best buy I have ever made. And one thing you don't have on your list is a swing. A swing was a must for me. Natalie would sit and swing all day long, and you totally need a boppy.
Audrey's favorite is her bouncer. We got it as a gift so I don't even know what brand it is, but I'm pretty sure it is from target and it has a toy bar with two elephants and a lion on it. It is very simple and doesn't have all the flashing lights and music...it just bounces and she absolutley loves it. She never really liked her swing - but she has been happy in her bouncer from day one!
ReplyDeleteCar Seat/Stroller Travel System - Graco Metrolite... the only travel system with rubber wheels (hence super easy to turn), it weighs 17 pounds all together, I'll give you an entire infomercial.
ReplyDeleteDiaper Bag - I have a JuJuBe and I love it. I like the messenger style better than the backpack style because you can strap them on your stroller more easily.
Carrier/Wraps - Kendall's your girl. Everyone I know swears by the Bjorn... Ava didn't really love it.
Crib - I don't think this matters too much. Just get one that you like because you'll probably use it for 2 or 3 more kids to come.
Bouncer - Ava started on the Fisher Price Hop N Pop when she was 3 months and LOVED it until she could walk. It was great... perfect for when I need to check my e-mail or blowdry my hair.
Amen to Erin... swings are the BEST. I recommend the Fisher Price papasan style swings. They swing both forwards/backwards, and side-to-side and the babies love them. I even keep mine out for when Audrey comes over. Ava would sit in her swing for HOURS.
Get Baby Wise... read it, study it, live it... it'll save your life.
I think I win the prize for longest comment ever.
ReplyDeleteOh, and if you're going to do a diaper system, I'd recommend the CHAMP not the GENIE.
ReplyDeleteWow ash, you do win a prize! Thanks everyone! Still looking for input from anyone else out there :)
ReplyDeleteI would just like to list a couple of things you might also want to consider buying. A pack and play (the best invention EVER) and a swing. The best swing are the ones the swing side to side and back and forth. Just keep that in mind. I have a graco stroller and it is really good. As far as diaper bags go, I used the free one they gave me at the hospital and 2 years later, it is still in great shape! I think everyone else has got you covered. Can i really quick just say something about baby wipes? I HATE huggies baby wipes but love their diapers. Their wipes are too rough and it seems like they always make my son break out in a diaper rash. Their diapers however, are great. I use pampers, fresh baby scent, wipes! Super soft and do the job perfect! Okay, I was just trying to beat Ashley on longest comment! I hope I win!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love reading all the recommendations that your friends are leaving...especially since they are all first time moms and more "up" on what's the "best" stuff!
ReplyDeleteSo now as a mom of three I'm gonna throw in my two cents, ok?
It's all about trial and error!!!
I loved my Graco travel system when I had ONE child...now it's too much junk (and too heavy) for me to lug around!
I threw away my diaper genie thingy about 4 months after Sabrina was born...now I just walk my lazy self to the trash can to dispose of poop!
Diapers-definately trial and error...one kid did well with one brand and the other leaked all the time.
I LOVE my Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bags..that just depends on your style!
I biggest recommendation is to buy some great blankets...Wrap that sweet baby up with some great soft blankies and then cuddle forever!!
So now that I've given not much to go on...Just remember that the "stuff" doesn't make the MOM...and I'm sure you will be a great mom (no matter what stuff you get)!
Not only does Ashley get the prize for the longest comment but also the most comments!
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with melissa on the bouncer...we have the swing and bouncer and use each for different reasons. I can't wait to get together and discuss all my favorite musts with you.
everyone has such great suggestions. i've worked at Babies R Us for 5 years and could tell what is best and not. I do have to say GRACO for infant seat but either Britax or Evenflo Triump for the convertable. Pack N Plays are AWESOME. We used the bassinet part for the bassinet/cradle for the first couple months. That way we for sure got our money's worth. plus they come with changing tables and everything now. Stay away from soft wooded brands. the best mattress for the money is the one at Babies R Us for 129.99. If you need any more advice...email me. snaqpaq@gmail.com
