What to buy. What to do.

Attention fellow moms, I have yet another set of questions for you all.

1. Double strollers. I would like one that I can still clip the baby carrier onto, but that isn't huge. Recommendations?

2. Toddler bed. When did your kids start sleeping in a one? Any particular brand/style recommendations?

3. We're in need of buying a swing and/or bouncer, and pack n play. I'm pretty sure we'll have more than 2 kids, so would you recommend just buying brand new, or used from craigs list or something? Also, any favorite brands or styles on those items?

4. How in the world do you keep your strollers clean? Why don't they make the material removable so you can just throw it in the washer? I just wipe it down, but it's in serious need of a good hose down, but I thought I'd ask first, before I have a soaking wet stroller for possibly days.

5. Favorites. What are you new mom must have favorites?

  1. I hate to tell you, but there is no one perfect double stroller. That said, I love my Bob and have never regretted shelling out the money for it. As far as beds go, Harrison was in a twin at 10 months (he just moved from our bed to his own), so as long as Brighton knows how to get down herself, she'll be fine whenever you want to move her. For me, with the second baby, I realized that I needed so much less than I thought I did with the first!

  2. Oops again. I forgot about the stroller. I've used carpet/upholstery cleaner before on mine.

  4. I am actually the opposite of Kendall as far as needs. With Collin I never had a swing, Bouncer, Exersaucer, or used my pack-n-play. With this (more high maintenance) child, we have found ourselves trying anything. Now my house looks like a Babies-R-Us store. I hate that...but my baby is happy. My hardest is keeping them separate at night just in case Blake wakes up, I don't want her to disturb Collin...thus the pack-n-play.
I don't love my double stroller. I swear there is a huge need for the perfect double and a mother needs to design it!
And last but not least...Collin started sleeping in a Twin when we moved just around her 2nd b-day. No problems and still to this day, she refuses to get out of bed herself. She will call for me to come get her. Kind of funny.

  6. Jodee,
well my recommendation for buying a swing and other things, if you are trying to save some money I would look on craigslist. You can usually find great things on there that haven't really been used. I would try that first and then if you can't find anything you can try second hand store or buy new. I noticed that i didn't use as much as i did with my first.

  7. One word....
    BOB
I promise your back will thank you.
    SO light.
    SO easy to push.
When I go out with other people they are always amazed how my double stroller is easier to push then their single.
My opinion is keep B in a crib as long as possible. Once they are in a reg bed then they can get up whenever they want and where as they might go back to sleep when they wake up to early they will simply just get up because they can.
Also, go to Belmont Kids on Broadway. It's a consignment store but it is SO nice. I bought a NEW pack n play there for my step-bro for $30 dollars. It still had the plastic on it. They also have swings and bouncers and everything you could think of for super cheap. They only take stuff that looks new.
...I guess that was more than one word....

  8. Jodee, I have an extra swing that I never used with Samuel. You can have it. It is the aqua swing and it is one where is rocks side to side and back and forth. You are more than welcome to take it!

Double stroller, not a big fan of mine because it is so hard to push but I think you might get that will all beasts of double strollers.

Pack and plays are my LIFESAVERS! I have a graco that is brown and blue, I don't know the exact type but I have learned that most pack and plays are all kind of the same. I bought a real expensive one with Salvador and it had all the extras and I really never used them but I wore out the pack and play! Now with Samuel, I got a new one, one that wasn't as expensive and it was still as good. I would buy a middle priced one! They are AMAZING!

As far as bottles, I really like Dr. Browns. It is the only thing Samuel has used!

  9. Oops I forgot beds! We skipped the toddler bed and when straight to a twin bed. It is wonderful. It is a captains bed and we got a great deal on it. I have the business card if you need it. We took Salvador out of his crib at 3 and the only reason we did was because Samuel was coming. I figure if they can't get out of the crib or they don't try to crawl out, leave them in there!

  11. No recommendation on strollers, but I would get a pack n play. I put nixon in it for what I thought would be just a few months and he is still in it in my room. Logan still is in his crib. He doesn't try to clib out and I've been told to leave him in there iuntil he does. We have an extra crib that I thought I would use, if you are in need of one.

  12. Landon moved into a big boy bed at 18 months - 2 months before Alyssa was born. I wanted him to be fully adjusted before the baby came and he was. Don't do a toddler bed because I think it's just a waste of money and another bed they have to get used to. I love my peg perego stroller side by side, but I know you have a graco car seat right? So that prob wouldn't work. With Landon & Alyssa I used a Maclaren double which didn't have the option to put a car seat on and it didn't matter because Alyssa never slept in the car seat. Anyway...call me if you need more suggestions. I have the BOB stroller for walking around the neighborhood...I don't know how people fit that thing in their car..it's huge! I wouldn't want to lug that thing around everywhere. And Yes I have owned WAY too many strollers!

  13. That's what I was thinking about the Bob. I know it would never fit in the trunk of my little car. Thanks for all the tips!!!
