I don't get asked this so much anymore, but when I first moved here people would always ask if I liked living in Cedar or SoCal better? Small town, or big city? I would always answer, "I like both."
When I was home last I decided to go around town and take pictures of some of the things I miss about living in Cedar.
Some of the obvious things:
My family.
The summer beauty.
Location. You can be to Lake Powell, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Brian Head Ski Resort, Lake Mead, Las Vegas, within a couple of hours... and you can get to smaller lakes, places to hike, ride dirt bikes, camp, etc. within minutes.

Some of the not so obvious things:
Drive Thru's. Pretty much everything has a drive thru in Cedar. Here are a few of my favorites:
Cafe Rio

Drive Thru Banks...not just ATM's.

Subway
Panda Express
Gas Stations... sometimes you just want a drink or some chips or something!
The light house. So that the cars can see where their going on I-15 ;).

Wal-Mart Grocery. This Wal-Mart was built with a full grocery store inside. Produce, Deli, Bakery...Full grocery. I haven't been to any of the new ones around here where they've added produce and such, but chances are it's not nearly as big as this one.

Vanilla Coke. None of the canned vanilla coke crap. Real out of the pump vanilla. You can get it at almost any restaurant. This picture was courtesy of Dairy Queen (which has a drive-thru as well). Next time you drive through CC, stop at Top Spot and get a large coke/diet coke with vanilla AND lemon. It will change your life. It's been my favorite drink since I was like 15.

Summer Thunder Storms. I love when it rains and it's still 80 degrees.
The Shakespeare Festival. Not so much because I like plays...but because it brings tourists from all over to visit.

And last... the Sno Shacks. There is a sno cone place about every 5 blocks going down main street I swear. Delicious.

I definitely get much more home sick when I go to Cedar in the summer, because I'm not a huge fan of snow. But I'm so thankful that we get to go up there at least once a year for a few weeks... even if it over Christmas when it's snowy. :)

That Wal*Mart looks more like an airplane hangar!
ReplyDeleteJodee, we have a drive-thru Subway around the corner from us on Brookhurst. It's the only one I think I've ever seen in the LA/OC area. But I don't like using it, because it's such a hassle to order a custom sandwich over an intercom. I always have to repeat myself like 3 times!
That's what all our Wal-Marts look like. It's very big here. We have many of those drive-thrus too, but I don't think I've ever seen a drive-thru gas station! How cool!
ReplyDeleteI just might have to move to Cedar for all the drive-thrus!
ReplyDeleteWe are looking at a place in Westlake and in Westlake they don't allow drive-thru's not even McDonalds!
This is the cutest post! I just miss Utah period! But I love Chicago too. So I know how you feel. I wish I could combine Utah and Chicago :)
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that would make Cedar City better, is if YOU (and your family) lived here! I seriously don't know how I'd exist without drive thru banks!
ReplyDeleteMy uncle and his family go to the Shakespeare Festival every year!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAaron, the wal-mart use to be an airplane hangar! Just kidding.
ReplyDeleteOur subway doesn't have an intercom, you actually just drive up to the window and talk to the person. But when it's snowing, or you have kids, it's awesome!
I use to drive thru that gas station every morning after dance practice in high school (while missing part of 1st period I'm sure)to get a 32 oz pepsi, easy ice with a short straw. Oh memories.
OH I LOVE CEDAR! I think I take advantage of living here sometimes but I really do love it. The drive thru's are the best. Especially KB's. I don't think I would've survived the first few months of being a mom without a pepsi from KB because like I could hall both of my babies in a store to get a drink. It's great! Right now I am loving the fall weather and I love when the leaves start changing. Sorry I don't mean to rub it in. :)
ReplyDeleteCute post! I agree Cedar has some amazing things... Im a huge fan of the KB drive thrus. Because lets face it, i dont want to have to drag my twins in there everytime i want my diet dr pepper! :) oh and i LOVE that Tiki shack! Their shaved ice is the best!!
ReplyDeletehaha i didnt read Brittany's comment until i posted mine.. Obvisouly we love the KB drive thrus.... lol.
ReplyDeleteBritt & Julie, you're cracking me up! I hate dragging one kid in and out of the car, and now that I have two... don't even get me started. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love your dad's pictures:)
ReplyDeleteIt's funny the things you miss when you've been away, isn't it? Those scenery pictures are amazing! I love the summer storms too. I have definitely missed them since we moved here. It's too bad we can't have all of the awesome things about Utah and California combined... and have it be our little secret so there aren't a ton of other people too. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great post! I miss Utah too :( Especially now when the leaves are starting to change there. I also LOVE the shot your dad did with the quakies and the lava rock. Does he sell prints? How much do they cost.. maybe an 8x10?
ReplyDeleteMiss ya lady!!
Colleen, how funny! We have that same picture hanging above our dining table. He totally sells prints. I'll find out pricing and let you know.
ReplyDeleteI was a very happy person when I found out that the Cafe Rio had drive thru!! I can stop there on the way to New Harmony and the way home from New Harmony and try to eat my Cafe Rio while I drive :)
