Expensive? Or am I being cheap...

Now that we know we're having a little girl... which still freaks me out by the way... I've been looking online at baby stuff. Couple of questions... All of the stuff I like seems to be super expensive. (As far as bedding goes) Am I just being cheap not wanting to pay $189 for a 4 piece set that my little one will just throw up, drool, etc. on? I'm sure there are better places to be looking, or how hard do you think it would be to make stuff? I do have sewing machine, and lots of free time. What do you think? And be honest...

  1. There are super expensive crib bedding websites out there. I can't believe how much people pay for these things! I think you could totally make something cute. I know plenty of girls that make their crib bedding. Luckily I always knew someone that worked at PB kids and got 40% off, because that stuff is expensive. But I think Target & Babies R Us are getting cuter stuff these days, so you might want to look there as well. Also, you don't need like the whole diaper thing that matches and all the pillows and quilt. Just a sheet, crib bumper, blanket and that's about it. I just keep the darn quilt blanket in the closet most of the time. You pay all this money and don't want it to get messed up! Pretty dumb huh?

  2. I made logan bedding. Just the bumper and skirt. I just bought a sheet and have never used a quilt or anything like that. I could help you make the bedding. I have the pattern. It's totally basic but you could pick out whatever cute fabric you want. I would just say that you need to make it soon. I made mine when I was 8 months pregnant and sweating my butt off in the July heat. Let me know if you want to do it together. I would just make it for you but I would worry about ruining it. Also Megan's mom made hers and they just recovered a cheap bumper from Ross, but I don't know how to do that!

  3. Cute new backdrop! I think you should put to your sewing machine to some good use. Practice makes perfect and you have to start somewhere (plus I am sure you know tons of people who can help you with any questions you may have)!

  4. I say go for it. It's your first child, and spending that much money on something just means it'll last through your next couple of children... or at least it should, right? That way, you don't have to keep buying new cheap ones... it'll be more expensive in the long run.

  5. I have that bedding! It's super cute. I never used the bumper because my pediatrician was totally against them. I use the quilt now for Natalie's toddler bed and the bed ruffle. I use the diaper holder as well.

But honestly even though I actually used everything and love it all, you really need is a sheet. That's all I am getting this time around. Some cute sheets.

If I were you I would just try making the bedding. This way it's your own personal style and it would be fun. You will love decorating your nursery because girls are so much fun!

  6. I got my stuff at USA baby, and it was like 40% off. They are having their "Once a Trimester" sale. I got the 4 peice set, a mobile, a rug, an extra sheet, some wall art, and a carrier blanket all for about $220.

  7. I actually don't think it's that bad. I'm guessing it's Pottery Barn, right? I think I paid $150 for mine and it was from Babies R Us.

Mine is in great condition considering... the only thing that really gets drooled/thrown up on is the sheet and those are super cheap.

  11. I've been looking at crib sets too and they are dang expensive! I would honestly make my own if I had a sewing machine. But I don't so I have to actually save up for the crib set and my glider I want. I agree with Kara completely though!! I'm not getting the quilt or the things I won't ever use.

  13. I agree with everyone... just make it yourself. I did and it was so much fun!!! Ok, so now that you know you are having a girl I guess I will be having to make baseball hair bows for her to wear! wink!
Oh, thanks for the comment about my dress.. isn't it the best. I got it from this cool lady!!! wink!!

  14. My set was around 200.00 dollars and the only thing left in the bed is a sheet. The bumper was the first thing to go and the quilt never gets used b/c you're not supposed to have loose blankets in the bed. We packed most of the set up. We use the diaper holder but only b/c we already bought it. I'm with Erin on lots of fun sheets...That's what I'm doing for sure next time around.

However...I felt like getting the bedding all set up was part of the fun :-/ .

Mobiles are a must...we've two of them right now.
