Our Last Get-Away

I have been meaning to blog this since we returned from Palm Springs, but haven't had the energy!

Here is the story of our last get-away before we become parents:

We left for Palm Springs on Wednesday July 16th, and arrived at about 3:30 pm. We check into our hotel, the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort, and head up to our room with our bags. Upon opening the door, I see that there are clothes on the floor, and perfume, make-up, etc. on the dresser. I say, "hello?" Luckily no one was in there. Braden waited with the bags while I went back down to the lobby to get another room, since the one we had been given was clearly occupied.

In the lobby, a very nice gentlemen let me go in front of him in line, and I proceeded to tell the clerk what had happened. We (me an the nice man) got a good laugh joking around about how if someone had been in there or what not. They gave us another room down the hall, I thanked the lady, said goodbye to the man, and went back up stairs.

We're in our new room for maybe 10 minutes, when I hear a lot of ruckus out in the hall. I look through the peephole, and the nice man from the lobby is trying to get in our room! I open the door, and just smiled. He was like, "You have GOT to be kidding me!" I just started laughing. The same clerk that helped me, had given him our same room! So now he had to go back downstairs to get a new room.

Before I had booked our hotel/trip, I wanted to make sure I knew exactly how much it was going to cost. I called the hotel before hand to find out about additional fees, internet, breakfast, etc. I was told that wireless internet was free, and that breakfast was included in the package we had gotten.

So of course, I go to get on the internet and "T-Mobile Hot Spot" pops up asking me to pay $9.99 for each 24 hour period. I called the front lobby, thinking that maybe I just needed a code or something, and they told me that no, internet was not free. I was miffed to say the least, and told them the least they could do since we already had a room fiasco was to give us free internet. The clerk agreed and gave us a $25 credit on our room.

After hanging out for a bit, we decided to get CPK to go and watch a pay-per view movie back in our room. I was fairly the warm, but just chalked it up to being pregnant until Braden mentioned he was pretty warm as well. The air conditioner had been on the entire time, and was blowing cool air, but it just was not cooling off in our room. I called the front desk and they sent a service man right up to check things out. The AC was working fine, but the service man agreed that it should be a LOT cooler. So... we switched rooms... again.

By this time it's about midnight. Our new room was much cooler, and I was SURE we couldn't have anymore problems. I decided that I was going to take a nice long shower before bed and headed to the bathroom. I turn on the shower and am waiting for the warm water to come... waiting, waiting, waiting... still cold. I think, hmmm, the knob must be backwards, so I flip it to the other side... still cold. By this time I've had it. Braden was asleep, so I went down to the front desk so I wouldn't wake him up. I asked for the manager and proceeded to say, "Okay, as you can see I'm pregnant, so I'm going to try REALLY hard not to get hormonal on you." I then burst into tears as I explain all the problems we have already had and that "I'm just trying to have one last get-away with my husband before our baby comes, and it's turning into a disaster!" Needless to say she was very nice after the scene I made.

Turns out that the shower knob WAS backwards and that I just hadn't waited long enough (they said it may take up to 5 minutes at that time of night to get hot water.... 5 minutes!) Anyway... The manager ended up giving us a free night for our troubles ($100 credit) as well as free breakfast for both mornings (because of course whoever the moron I talked to beforehand had been wrong about the breakfast being included as well). Which would have cost us about $90.

The next day we had wonderful massages at the Hyatt Spa (I won't go into how retarded the girl was there that couldn't calculate what 25% off of $260 was...) Yummy dinner at Olive Garden and relaxed and watched another movie that night.

At checkout, turns out that NO ONE was efficiently trained on their "new" computer system, so of course there were major problems with our bill. 30-45 minutes later, our over $400 bill was reduced to about $190. PHEW!

Oh, and guess what 2 channels didn't come in in our last room? ESPN, and ESPN2. Of all channels! Braden was super happy about that!

It will be an adventure I'll never forget, that is for sure! But really, we did have a good time overall, and I am very happy that we got in one last little get-away :)

The End.

PS. I didn't take a single picture... I struggle.

  4. Geez! What hotel was it? They certainly didn't seem to have things under control there. I'm glad everything turned out in the end but sorry they gave you so much trouble to begin with.
