To Take or Not to Take

I have been doing some "research" on what I should pack for the hospital. My list is HUGE compared to what I originally thought. I won't go into details.

What I want to know is... Is there anything that you feel is a 'must have' or something that you didn't bring, that you would be sure to have next time, etc. Or things that you brought that were totally pointless. ???

  1. Here is what I brought this time that I used..
Ipod(a must for me it helped me relax and sleep especially after the epidural)
Crackers and lifesavers to eat during labor
headband and hair tie to keep your hair out of your face.
A pillow you don't mind tossing afterward.
    The Boppy
    nursing bra
An outfit to come home something not tight and comfy
I brought pjs that I swore I would use but I was super sick afterward so I didn't use them. Otherwise I might have.
I had to share a room this time so I actually used my robe but I didn't with Natalie b/c I had a private room.
    Cute outfit for baby
    cameras
    laptop
    makeup
That was everything that I brought and I used it all minus the pjs.

Oh and make sure you have all the numbers of the people you want to call/text afterward and the number of your pediatrician if he/she isn't going to be the one seeing your baby in the hospital.

  2. Hey Jodee all I would do differenly this time is instead of a duffle bag I am going to bring a small little suitcase. The duffle bag was so messy by the end of our hospital stay and I couldnt find ANYTHING. Apple juice...thats all you can have if you have a c-section and the nurses were a bit stingy with it! I had so much of it Leonel didnt want to ask for it anymore:)

  3. The only thing that Tiffany wished that she had taken was shampoo, because there wasn't any in her room. The only things she took were an extra set of clothes, a toothbrush, and a hairbrush.

  4. Here are a few things you might not think of:

Hard candy, slippers, DVDs (but make sure it isn't your favorite.... I still can't watch Batman Begins without feeling a contraction)

    Don't forget the carseat!

  5. I think it was Kelli who told me to definitely bring my own pads and a toothbrush and toothpaste.

  6. Thank you Amy!Amen to that!

I was about as organized as Erin's answer however...I really don't remember getting into my bag much. Although...I know that I probably will bring all of those things next time because I will make a much bigger effort in my personal appearance. Boy was I NASTY looking.
    Guess I'm not helping much.

  9. Besides the basics, like toiletries, vitamins, snacks, and an outfit for you and your little one, I could not live without my Boppy pillow for nursing, and a swaddle blanket (you can get them at Babies R Us or Target).

It's all so nerve wracking and exciting, isn't it?!

  10. With all three I brought my own blanket & pillow b/c the hospital ones are not cozy enough for me.
I also brought a small little bin to put my lotion, chapstick, cell phone, camera, etc. and then kept that on my side table so I was not always digging through my purse and just had it right next to me.
Nursing pads are good to bring as well.
The nice part is if you forget something, usually someone can go get it for you. Everyone wants to help after you have a baby and so it gives them something to do.
    good luck.
