Colic or Acid Reflux?

Yes, we have a screamer on our hands! (she was actually just yawning here but...) We headed off to the doctor again today to see what the doctor thought of all Brighton's screaming. I thought for sure she would just be an angel while we were there and make Braden and I look stupid, but good for us, she screamed her head off the entire time we were there :) (?)

We came home with instructions to try and rule out acid reflux (because she has a good chunk of symptoms), and are supposed to try a few things over the weekend. If we don't see improvement, then we'll go back Monday, and possibly get medication for GERD. I would chalk it up to Colic, but she just seems to be in pain a lot of the time, and some remedies for acid reflux seem to really make her feel better. (thats why we have her propped up on all those blankets... trying to keep her at a 30 degree angle after eating).

So, heres to even more sleepless hours. Sorry neighbors!

Edit: I forgot to mention that my chunky butt (her nickname for the day) gained 14 ounces in a week! I was worried at first she wasn't getting enough to eat... guess not!

  1. Oh I am so sorry! Tav was so fussy in the beginning too and has the WORST reflux of our boys. (Thanks dad- who also has reflux!) It can be hard to watch and see them so uncomfortable and trying everything under the sun to try and relieve it! If that is what it ends up being, just know that it does get better and they do get happier, you just gotta figure out what's going to work for them. Good luck!

  2. Oh! The poor thing. I hate seeing my baby in pain, even when he's just pooping =) I hope the things that doctor gave you to try out work for her. I have to do the same thing in Jackson's bed because he gets the hiccups so much. I have books under the mattress to prop it up. Good luck!

  3. Ah, the joys of being a mother! Sorry about the screaming. I was always worried that Logan would start and my neighbors would freak out. Good luck and hope the screaming stops soon!

  6. Can you adjust the baby hammock so that it is always at an incline? I know we can do that with ours...Just so you aren't always piling up blankets! Good luck. I hope she starts feeling better very soon.

  7. Oh sister! I am feeling your pain! It's so hard when they seem like they're in pain. I'm excited to see if the GERD stuff works. I'm wondering if Audrey had GERD. She never spit up so my Dr. ruled it out for that reason. Poor baby and poor mommy and daddy!

  9. Oh Jodee I so feel your pain. Natalie had GERD but wasn't really fussy about it. Noah has GERD and the whole world knows about it. Just keep her on an incline and...well I will just email you what I know because you can take stuff that reduces the reflux. If it makes you feel better Noah used be up all night screaming and now it's just during the day:)

  10. Ooooh that's sad. She was so not a screamer the first week...in fact I was just telling Casey how she was a pretty relaxed baby. I hope she starts feeling better soon :)

  11. For some reason that first sentence made me giggle. You're telling us she's screaming and I look at the picture and get all sad, but really she's just yawning. I'm going to e-mail you a link to my friend's blog who it sounds had the same problem.

I hope you guys can figure out what's wrong soon. There's nothing worse than a sad baby. And good for her for gaining 14 ounces! She'll be caught up to Shea in no time!
